Anchor of Faith

May 28, 2024 by Ezers

Listen:

“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)

Reflect:

In 2022, I saw a vivid vision of a broken dam and a mighty flood of water gushing into the wilderness and desert places of our lives as a family. In the mighty, I saw barriers and resistance swept away and empty cisterns filled to overflowing with water. The water brought revival and restoration to dry, stagnant, and barren areas of our lives.

That vision became the focus of many hours of praying for my family—nuclear and extended. I earnestly desired to see the dam broken and whatever was holding back the living waters from gushing freely and copiously in our lives swept away by the force of the water.

Everything Jesus brings is expressed as abundant, overflowing, and satisfying, including the knowledge of God, God’s love, and the experience of health, healing, and wholeness for everyone who trusts Him.

Out of the superabundance of His grace, Jesus causes rivers of living waters to flow and bubble up continuously out of the innermost part of those who trust and rely on Him. Therefore, the outpouring of the Spirit brings an end to stagnation, fruitlessness, and emptiness.

Jesus intends that living waters should flow copiously from our innermost being and diffuse for the good of others. The overflow from the fullness within our lives should bring refreshing to other people. We cannot be content with containing the power of God’s Holy Spirit dwelling in us. We must burst forth from our innermost being and overflow unhindered and unobstructed into the lives around us.

The people around us should find the rivers of living water flowing out of us in ways that will make them want to know God the way we do.

I desire the Holy Spirit to overflow to refresh, revive, and restore life to us and others. He empowers us to be fruitful and to bring an abundant harvest of souls into God’s kingdom. I want this not only for my biological family but also for my family in Christ.

Prayer of Response:

Lord God, I thank You for giving us Jesus, the living water, who satisfies the thirst in our souls. Thank You for pouring Your Holy Spirit on us from above until He gushes like a spring of living waters in our souls, overflowing continually to touch the lives of people around us and attract them into Your kingdom. I pray that our hearts will be Your storehouse overflowing with Your goodness and love. I pray that Your Holy Spirit will fill us up to overflowing so we can operate under the influence of Your power at work in us.

Questions to Ponder:

  • Is the overflow of the living waters and the fullness of God in your life evident for all to see?
  • How does the knowledge of the abundance and fullness Jesus brings into our lives through His Holy Spirit reframe your experience of Him and inspire an earnest longing for the copious and unceasing overflow of His Spirit in you?
