Listen:
What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. (Philippians 3:8-9)
Reflect:
Paul tells us that he considers everything else a loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ. Our identity, worth, and peace aren’t found in performance, reputation, or control but in Him alone.
There’s a picture about buffalo and cows in a storm. Cows run away from the storm and stay in it longer. Buffalo turn and run straight into the storm, passing through it more quickly. Like cows, we often cling to what makes us feel secure our routines, roles, or strength and try to avoid hardship.
Philippians 3:8–9 invites us to release those things and run toward Jesus, trusting Him in the midst of difficulty.
For our family, we are entering a new season of change as Chris matches at the end of this week. While it’s been difficult to imagine uprooting our family of five once again, we are fully trusting God with our plans. We are praying for His tender mercy and believing that He will place us exactly where He intends for these next four years. We know His timing and purpose are intentional, and we are choosing to rest in that trust.
God also shows His power and care in creation. He sets boundaries for the ocean in Job, saying, “This far you may come and no farther.” The same God who holds the seas in check knows exactly how much we can carry. We don’t have to face life’s storms alone; He holds us through every wave.
When we run toward Christ, we find that He is enough. Our righteousness, worth, and peace come from Him not our ability to manage the storm.
Prayer of Response:
Lord, help us release what we cling to and run into Your arms, trusting Your strength and care in every storm. Amen.
Questions to Ponder:
- What storm do you need to bring to Jesus today?
- What are you holding onto for security instead of trusting Him?
- How does knowing God sets boundaries for the seas encourage your faith?
Breath Prayers:
Join us in praying breath prayers each day. We invite you to write your own as well.
Inhale(Breathe in): I run to You Jesus
Exhale(Breathe out): You carry me through the storm
(Repeat)
