Proverbs 3:30

June 30, 2026 by Ezers

Listen:

“Don’t pick a fight without reason, when no one has done you harm” (Proverbs 3:30, NLT).

Reflect:

Lady wisdom is giving us another piece of advice! This sounds familiar! Have you woken up in the morning feeling grumpy, came from work, tired and irritable, had a difficult conversation that went sour? Sometimes we want to look at others who offended us for nothing, but let’s look at us, those moments when we rushed out, magnified situations for no good reason! Those situations! We are being commanded to use wisdom, think again before we pick a fight.

The feeling that comes after that is not pleasant at all! I can squarely relate when I have picked a quarrel with a close family member because I was already enraged by another issue, real or emotional. This Proverbs chapter teaches us to call on lady wisdom at all times when we finds ourselves cornered and tempted to go overboard. Proverbs15:33says:

“The fear of the LORD is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor”.

Our standing rock is on the “fear of the Lord”. It releases wisdom and enhances humility, which protects honor. We do lose honor when we pick flights or react negatively to provocation.

May the Lord help us to stay alert and be guided by His wisdom in all situations. And again let us not accuse others or pick unwarranted fights. The good thing is that lady wisdom is waiting for us to consult!!

Prayer of Response:

“Dear heavenly father, would you teach us how to avoid situations where we transfer rage, anger, frustration to other people and accuse or pick fights that were never meant to be. Thank you for reminding us to look within and ask for wisdom to carry us through challenges and preserve honor and humility as we interact with others around us. In Jesus name. Amen.”

Questions to Ponder:

  • In the last month, how often have you found yourself picking up fights not warranted?
  • Can you remember instances when you felt not too good after such encounters?
  • Could you also remember an incident where lady wisdom won the day and you were able to contain a potentially explosive event?

Breath Prayers:

Join us in praying breath prayers each day. We invite you to write your own as well.

Inhale (Breathe in): ) Lord, help me to look within myself
Exhale (Breathe out): Help me from starting unnecessary fights
(Repeat)
