Listen:
“The night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the Armor of light.” (Romans 13:12)
Reflect:
Like many businesses the world over, the one I work for is struggling to figure out how to move ahead financially knowing that there will be long-lasting consequences from these last few months. Last week I was asked – along with over 8000 others – to vote on a proposal to this issue. There was a flurry of email beforehand arguing for and against. It was challenging to understand whether certain “loopholes” described by one side were in fact efforts to make it easier to stand down employees in the future or an effort to save as many jobs as possible. The issues are complex, and the motivations not always clear. Across the globe, we are all facing these decisions where two sides of the story can appear simultaneously legitimate (or illegitimate).
Romans 13 comes as a good reminder that God is above all of this. He sees the heart of men. He knows the plans of men. Our task is to put on “the light” as a defence against the darkness. WE may not be given an obvious “best” option in this world, but God’s word will guide us to the right way to live regardless.
Prayer of response:
“Dear Lord and Heavenly Father, drive me to your Word daily. Help me find the wisdom I need to walk the path laid before me. You are my rock and my salvation. Amen.”
