Listen
“But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul in me”. (Psalm 131:2)
Reflect
This verse speaks to me afresh due to the birth of a new granddaughter a few weeks ago.
Have a look at the picture: baby Emmy Elefteria has just finished drinking. The milk is still on her face…she looks absolutely satisfied and in complete rest!
In our lives, before “rest”, there is usually “unrest”. Unrest because of so many reasons: the drive to be somebody, or the urge to perform, ambition, a huge to-do-list, pride, and other factors.
How do I get to that state of complete satisfaction, intimacy, relaxation, surrender and security?
I have tried many ways like more sleep, less stress, taking a break, but although these elements are important, it did not bring my soul to the rest I was longing for.
It brings me back to Psalm 62:2 (MSG) where it says: “HE is the breathing room for my soul”. In the Dutch bible it is translated: “Only in God finds my soul her rest”.
In God alone! Let us go back to the source, drink from Him and experience the rest and satisfaction that nothing else can give you!
Prayer of Response
“Lord Jesus, forgive me that I have tried to find rest for my soul outside You. I long for Your rest, Your fullness, Your love! Because I know that Your rest will help me grow. Thank You that Your resource is un-ending, always sufficient and always enough. I lift up my Lifesprings’ family around the world, bless them with a quiet soul in the midst of a world full of unrest.”
