Listen:
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.” (John 14:26)
Reflect:
Every name has a story. The Advocate and Helper depict the magnificent and indescribable divine support God has available for His children.
As a woman with an incredible ability to amass work, my plate is always fully loaded. I’ve cried out in desperation for help countless times. The demands on my time, strength and attention often overwhelm my human ability.
I experienced extreme physical weakness when myasthenia gravis depleted my strength, and breathing felt like running a marathon. I needed the divine bolstering of my energy only God could provide.
It gladdens my heart that I don’t have to carry out my multi-dimensional assignments independently in my strength. Jesus has provided the Holy Spirit who walks alongside me every moment of each day to guide, teach and counsel me. He reveals the truth to me, enlightens the eyes of my understanding and gives me deep insights. My Advocate speaks for me in the places where I have no voice and champions my cause where I have no access.
I came to know and experience God in these seasons of life as an Ever-present Help. Each time I cried out to Him, God answered me from His Holy place and sent me aid from Zion.
The Holy Spirit must be my senior partner in all my pursuits. My heart’s earnest desire is to live each day in the consciousness of this limitless help always available to me. I will not dissipate my limited energy trying to get things done myself but will walk in the fullness of God’s purpose for my life and accomplish all He called me to do and be.
Prayer of Response:
Most gracious God, I need You every hour as my Advocate and Helper. I have no strength of my own. Without the help only You can provide, my life is in vain, and my purpose will be unfulfilled. Help me, O Help of the helpless.
Questions to Ponder:
- Have you ever experienced the overwhelm of multi-tasking and trying to do many things at the same time in your strength?
- What difference will it make for you to know you don’t have to carry the burden of your God-given assignment alone?
- In which areas do you need to reach out to the Holy Spirit for help in this season of your life?
