Listen:
Psalm 3:3-5: But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain. I lie down and sleep;I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.
Reflect:
My Lord is
My shield and protection from harm and hurt
My glory and where I find my worth
The one who lifts my head (and raises me above others)
The one who I call to AND He answers me!
The one who sustains me and I know this every morning.
I have spent a few months meditating on this and find that I could do so for another few months. What I take away from this is that God is all I need for my health and for my life, physically, mentally, spiritually, and even socially. We have just come away from a few months of devotions on loving our neighbors. Now we see that God is involved in this and can even help us by giving us the confidence and grounding we need to “get out there and do the work”.
When I have God as my shield and my glory, God as my sustainer, then, as another verse says, who can be against me? And in the end, this confidence allows me to be who God made me even when it’s scary going.
Finally, I can call on God and talk to him. What a marvelous privilege! Not only that, but I can expect an answer. Awesome! Amazing!
Prayer of Response:
Thank you, dear Father, son and Spirit, that I can expect you to shield me, to lift my head, to sustain me. Thank you that when I have nothing else, you are my glory and what is worthwhile in my life.
Questions to Ponder:
Where do I need to see God working as a shield, as my sustainer?
What do I need to tell God that I want or need?
Where do I need to move out and do the work, knowing God is my glory?
