Listen:
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honoured by every nation. I will be honoured throughout the world.” (Psalm 46:10, NLT)
Reflect:
Calm down, my soul
Pay attention to the marvels of God
The One who defeats nations fights for you.
Wait for God alone
Keep still. He will not fail those who hope only in Him and wait for His directions.
Keep still. He will not fail those who hope only in Him and wait for His directions.
Our souls are prone to worry and anxieties. Rightly so, in a world where bad news is on autoplay. The economies of many countries are quaking. Violent civil unrest, wars, political instability, injustice, and insecurity are rife.
Adversity roars and foam in a fury, and we quiver.
Fear grips our souls as our predominant thoughts are of the worst-case scenarios.
David steps in and admonishes us in Psalm 46 to remember who is our Helper in times of trouble. The Lord God Himself is our refuge and strength. He is a safe and strong place to hide and be still. Nations will honour Him when they see His mighty works on display.
So, I command my soul to calm down and be still. The God of impregnable strength fights for me. Therefore, I will wait quietly for God alone. I will trust Him in complete confidence. I am safe and secure in His gracious presence.
My soul will be calm amid the storms because my confidence is in Him alone. Like a river, God’s favours and grace are overflowing towards me.
Prayer of Response:
My Lord and God, You are my Refuge and hiding place. I surrender all my anxieties and worries to You. I trust in You and am confident that You are in complete control of all that I do not and cannot understand happening in our world today. My soul finds rest in You alone.
Questions to Ponder:
1. Can your soul stay still and be confident in the Lord even when events around you spiral out of control?
2. Can you call your soul to pay attention to the marvellous works of God still evident around you when the storms of life are swirling fiercely around you?
3. Do you know that the One who has never been defeated is the One who fights for you? He alone has the power to save us from the dangers we face.
