Listen:
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)
Reflect:
The modern world teaches the young generation how to be hip, grab people’s attention easily, and amass a large following on social networks. Sometimes I think that being a Christian is not all that simple and easy in this kind of society. Christian young adults need their spiritual freedom in Jesus Christ. But I only know that God’s word sets us free.
Therefore, I’ll try to convey three things that were reinforced and shown to me during our devotional Tuesday together time.
Firstly, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1 NIV). Yes, Psalm 119 is about God. He is our Saviour, our Lord, King of kings and our best Friend. By His word, He wants to talk with His people. This word fills us up and renews us.
Secondly, No matter where we are today, and no matter what we have done, let His light shine on all the dark places of our life and restore what has been lost in the darkness. Thus He said, “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12 NIV). In addition, why not try to find our younger siblings or sisters and brothers and assist them in finding their lost things in the darkness. Despite the difficulty on our busy days, we must pay close attention to them and give them our time. One might need our time.
Last but not least, this world is filled with darkness and hidden secrets that are kept in boxes deep inside. Young adults have a lot of issues that they keep to themselves and those could hurt them. But, He said that He separated the light from the darkness (Genesis 1:3 NIV). Sharing His word is something that we can do. We can tell others to let His light into their hearts to allow His word to make them strong and give them courage. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed (Proverbs 11:25 NIV)
Questions to Ponder:
- How often do you talk with or spend quality time with your siblings, relatives, friends God brings into your life?
- If we were able to give one piece of advice to our younger selves about sharing God’s word, what would it be?
Prayer of Response:
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for being our God, our Savior and our closest Friend in every single moment of our lives. May Your light shine in our hearts and set us free from the darkness in Jesus name.
