Listen:
In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.(John 1:1)
Reflect:
The Meaning of Logos (what I found on the internet): derived from a Greek word variously meaning “ground”, “plea”, “opinion”, “expectation”, “word”, “speech”, “account”, “reason”, “proportion”, and “discourse”
It has to do with the existence and nature of God:
1. the Word of God, or principle of divine reason and creative order, identified in the Gospel of John with the second person of the Trinity incarnate in Jesus Christ.
2. (in Jungian psychology) the principle of reason and judgement
A short reflection:
God the Word
Logos
God was and is and is to come
God in the beginning, and before the beginning
God is thought, movement, reason
God made everything Everything
God is the source, the ground
God is the reason God is reason
God is Word,
Logos
God is with God,
So God is plural
And the Word and the Creator and
Not alone
Logos
This is such a short beginning to such a long story that continues to this very day, but these few words contain more than the universe in them. Reflect on the Logos who was in the beginning and who is God and is with God and who, just by being, made the whole universe and all the universes by himself, that very Word.
Prayer of Response:
Jesus, Logos, we praise you. We give you thanks for today and for making everything. Thank you that you, Logos, are with us and even though you are very big, you came and became just like me and lived a life, so I might live. Amen
Questions to Ponder:
What does Logos have to do with where you are now?
What do you want to tell Logos about these verses, and about where you are?
Who needs to hear that Logos is from (before) the beginning
