Listen:
“The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.” (Lamentations 3:25-26)
Reflect:
The last four years, in many ways, have felt very long. My husband and I lost our ministry careers within four months of each other. As a result, we lost many people we considered friends and part of our spiritual community. I experienced the unexpected death of a friend, whose presence I still miss. Then our basement flooded, and we spent months renovating. While still unemployed, we were asked to consider adopting the cousin and half sister of our adopted daughter.
My husband went back to school to complete another degree. We welcomed in two new little girls who were dealing with early childhood trauma and their own relational losses, while having our family under the microscope of Child Family Services. All of this while navigating a global pandemic.
Just last week I commented to my husband that after four long years, I feel like our lives are finally stabilizing. My husband has moved on to another career and the adoptions are finalized. There are still many unknowns that will take many more years to resolve but throughout it all, we have never given up our hope in the Lord. The last few years have not been exciting nor impressive but day to day we choose to put our hope in the one who we know is good.
There is peace in waiting on the Lord.
Prayer of Response:
Lord of our salvation, thank you for being good, even when we don’t understand the circumstances of our lives. Teach us to trust you as we wait on your goodness.
Questions to Ponder:
- What hard things have tempted you to stop believing that God is good?
- What does it mean for you to wait quietly for the Lord in long seasons of trials?
